MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

  • Ensure customs compliance that promotes international trade without any bottlenecks, constraints or barriers.
  • Ensure shipments are cleared correctly by maintaining the necessary protocols.
  • Ensure HS or Tariff codes are correctly assigned to imported product and the correct customs duty and advalorem is provided.
  • Ensure that export controls are followed from a customs perspective.
  • Customs Procedures, risk reduction and customs compliance
  • Tariff classification – ability to classify goods in line with the Customs Act.
  • Quality control documents.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Incoterms 2020.
  • Ability to frame and analyse a Customs compliant bill of entry.
  • Identify permit requirements and be able to check Trade Agreements in place.
  • Must be able to understand the calculation of Customs Duty, AdValorem and VAT.
  • Process Customs Duty, Advalorem and VAT payments to Clearing agent.
  • Maintain product library for all imported product.
  • Identify potential risks and make it known to Business Leaders.
  • Handle provisional payments, liquidations, refunds, claims and adjustments.
  • Ensure acquittals are monitored and submitted to Customs when required.
  • Adhere to the ISO9001 processes and guidelines at all times.
  • Must have an extensive knowledge on trade agreements such as AfCFTA
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on risk and customs procedures.
  • Ensure the highest levels of customer service.
  • Effectively manage queries and employ the shortest turnaround time for resolution.
  • Taking ownership of communications with Customs - ability to have detail discussions.
  • Take Ownership of all Import Documentation.
  • Check all Import Tariff Codes / Good understanding of Tariff Codes.
  • Manage a Dashboard of Imports and Exports for Management Information.
  • Communicate with the Clearing Agents.
  • Submit Payment documentation for Approvals for any Duties, VAT or Landed costs.
  • Ensure all Import Documentation is retained and Archived.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Matric
  • Certificate in Import, Export and Customs Compliance and Procedures
  • Diploma in Business Management
  • Degree in international trade and logistics

EXPERIENCE

  • Over 10 years experience in an import, export and customs compliance environment.
  • Working in a high performance environment.
  • Experience with international trade
  • Advanced Customs knowledge around physical goods flows from supplier to the end customer
  • Advanced knowledge on Trade Compliance, South African Customs rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize and drive issues to closure based on business impact
  • Ability to consult, influence and manage stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • SAP and MS office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) is a must.

KPA / MAJOR TASKS

  1. Ensure HS Codes are a match between Material Master, Item Master and Customs Clearance.
  2. Ensure every Customs Clearance BOE is vetted and approved before payment processing.
  3. Ensure customs documentation are uploaded and stored for auditing purposes.
  4. Ensure duty provisions vs actual duty payments are favourable.
  5. Follow-up and expediting of customs related queries
